The Soul Behind Jonakee
Hi, I am Sumona Haldar, founder and creator of my dream child – Jonakee.
My journey began not with fabric, but with rhythm.
I am a clothing, jewellery, and art designer based out of Kolkata. After completing my educational degrees, I took a step towards my dance career. Dancing has been an essential element of my life without which I can’t breathe. I have participated in television dance reality shows. Dance has always been my first love;however, I have always been keen to discover art in its different forms.
Since childhood, art has been an integral part of my life and family. Having been brought up with varied cultures and values, I just couldn’t hold back and had to bring my dreams into reality.
Empowering Artisans
We work with an extremely talented group of artisans from rural India. Jonakee supports the lives of more than 50 artisans, championing women with varied talents who work day and night.
Sustainable & Inclusive
In a world chasing trends, we focus on our roots. We are sustainable, reachable, and welcome every skin tone and body type. Our goal is to make you feel confident enough to win the world.
Reviving Tradition
We took up the challenge to bring back fading traditions. We reintroduced the Dhuti as a fashion statement—an attire to flaunt with a kurta or punjabi to bring back true Bangaliana.

Jonakee is an amalgamation of nostalgia and youth. We take you into stories where you glimpse your Maa and Thamma, the grandeur of Durga Pujo, and the art of Alpona.
From North Calcutta vibes, Yellow Taxis, and Satyajit Ray masterpieces, to the eternal love for Red and White. Whether it's the spring aroma of Palash Phool or the autumn breeze of Kashh Phool, our designs embody the soul of Bengal.
